In an interview with Entertainment Weekly George
R.R. Martin revealed some more details about HBO’s prequel series to Game of
Thrones. He told the magazine the show is set around 5000 years before the
events of the initial series and will feature a completely different Westeros
divided into a hundred kingdoms. The Stark family and their direwolves will be
part of the show but not the Lannister family. We will see Casterly Rock but it
will be occupied by the family the city was named after. The White Walkers are
in the show and the show will have an ensemble cast without a definite lead. At
the moment the show may be called The Longest Night. The spin-off is currently
shooting with a cast that includes: Naomi Watts, Josh Whitehouse, Naomi Ackie,
Denise Gough, Jamie Campbell Bower, John Simm, Richard McCabe, Sheila Atim,
Ivanno Jeremiah, Georgie Henley and more. HBO has dropped details that one thing
we will never see is a follow-up to the original show or a spin-off with any
member of the main cast. It was also made clear that of the five potential
spin-offs the one written by Bryan Cogman but the other three by Max Borenstein,
Brian Helgeland, and Cary Wray are still alive. HBO is planning on developing at
least two of those.
