 The
merger between Disney and Fox has resulted in Disney killing of several Fox
films. The first film to go was the adaptation of Mouse Guard due to the
excessive budget. Also dropped were Paul Greengrass’ News of the World and the
adaptation of Angie Thomas’ best-seller On the Come Up. News was picked up by
Universal while Come Up was picked up by Paramount. The box office failure of
The Hate U Give made Disney rethink doing the film. Ted Melfi’s
mental-hospital-set film Fruit Loops” which was to star Woody Harrelson is also
likely to be put in turnaround and offered up to who ever wants the film.
Projects that are safe are: the Avatar sequels, Kingsman: The Great Game, Fear
Street, West Side Story, Free Guy and Death on the Nile. The first film to get
approved under the merger is Clint Eastwood’s The Ballad of Richard Jewell.
Expected to remain in the planning stage is Artemis from Phil Lord and Chris
Miller. The film will be based on The Martian author Andy Weir’s 2017 novel and
takes place in the late 2080s and is set on the first and only city on the moon.
