Jay Faerber and Inhumans penciller Matt Clark (with the help of Chicagoan Ron Randall) complete the 'Pack' arc with some hard and fast werewolf action that adds another member to her irregular supporting cast.
 
The issue begins with Vampi and detective Brewster kicking in the door of Montrose. The two are there because a werewolf attacked Brewster in the previous issue and this is where the trail ends. Montrose is trying to reconnect with is ex-wife but that isn't happening. Most, if not all of the action takes place in the subway where Montrose has gone all hairy and violent. As things get heavy another werewolf shows up and when everything is said and done the subway will need a real cleaning.
 
Faerber keeps things moving at a nice clip but not to disguise a bad story. The domestic side of the story grounds the typically supernatural qualities of vampire/werewolf tales, which makes it believable to non-fans of the genre. The subway confrontation is realistic considering it's a chick in a hot suit and two werewolves going at it.

Matthew Clark was burned (along with Greg Rucka) on his last project, Felon over at Image. The run time shrunk on them and in typical Image fashion no one made this clear until it was too late. His style is high quality quasi-realistic with hints of slickness that crop up when the tale needs it. His Vampi is hot as she is supposed to be but the other characters here look more like regular folks. I'm really looking forward to his Inhumans work next month.
