"...Allowing Austin to dabble with Superman was a smart move considering it'll take a crowbar to pry him away from Marvel full time"

Review by Lawrence Evans

For all you Creeper fans that are upset he's not in Beware the Creeper Jack Ryder and his multi colored alter ego does appear here for your enjoyment. It's a small moment but leads up to a pivotal one.

The hardest workingman in comics, Chuck Austin starts the story with an argument. The triangle headed monster seen last issue is in the basement of a lab having a conversation with themselves as a guard tries to not get killed for his small salary. After convincing the monster to not kill him he is interviewed by Lois as Jimmy watches. Jimmy's new competition, Rebecca shows up and the two of them end up in the Ace of Clubs where Lena decides to join in on the conversation. Needless to say, having a talking wristwatch causes a few problems and gets Jimmy out of the place for more personal talk.

Austin and Zezelj go to town with the outside talk. Jimmy finds out why of all the people in Metropolis she picked him. The final words from Lena are in a close up then within three panels we move into an ultra wide shot that shows us damn near the whole block.

That confab also leads us to another place the triangle headed monster wants to bust into and the introduction of Jack Ryder. Jack's solution to the problem leads to death but Jimmy gets Lena to fix all that even though at the end of the issue the saved ones aren't very grateful.

As promised, Superman never makes an appearance here but the star of the series is Jimmy and the strange new city he lives in. I know the art isn't for everyone but it's really great stuff nevertheless. Allowing Austin to dabble with Superman was a smart move considering it'll take a crowbar to pry him away from Marvel full time.
