 Between
December and February Netflix debuted the first seasons of three IDW series
based on comics they publish. Netflix dropped the first season of V-Wars on
December 5 and October Faction on January 23 with Locke & Key on February 7th.
The streaming service has ordered a second season of Joe Hill and Gabriel
Rodriguez’s Locke & Key, but declined to renew October Faction and V-Wars. The
ending of October Faction may not be the worst thing to happen to IDW; the
entertainment division showed a loss of $5.6 million in its most recent quarter
behind the costs associated with the series. While Locke & Key’s renewal is good
news, the other two shows being picked up would have been better since IDW
Entertainment Chairman and CEO Howard Jonas confirmed the company suffered major
financial losses in 2019, but expects to bounce back soon and be profitable by
2021.
