The conclusion of Event Leviathan revealed that all of the intelligence agencies and top-secret organizations of the DC Universe have been more or less destroyed by Leviathan and his army. In the last issue we learned that the organization was led by first modern Manhunter Mark Shaw. The story isn’t over though because this month we got the oversized special Leviathan Dawn from Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev which set up a new status quo for the DCU’s intelligence community. And the one-shot will lead into specials and limited series that will show how Leviathan reacts to being attacked. The new organization will have some surprise members and some who have switched sides or started new paths. One character who was affected in a major way in Event Leviathan was Damian Wayne since his mother had a huge connection to Leviathan by being the person who created the original organization. Bendis says it was always the plan to have Mark Shaw as the mysterious head of Leviathan and the specials will show what he is doing after his escape and how he was able to make so many follow him. It will be revealed that Shaw isn’t interested in playing by the traditional villain rules so he will be a threat to both heroes and villains. The question, of course, is can he be redeemed since he wasn’t always this way. The one-shot will lead into the limited series Event Leviathan: Checkmate from the same team and in the limited series we will learn that Leviathan is claiming full credit for Superman revealing his identity to the world.
