On 2/21 Dan DiDio was fired as co-publisher of DC Comics. It was a sudden move that caught a lot of people by surprise especially since he had meetings and conversations with staffers and talent about work at the publisher. The move came from the suits at Warners. The day of the firing stories started coming out that the folks at Warners were questioning major personnel changes within DC and their lack of confidence in the DC publishing strategy he lad laid out to them. And as is always the case Bleeding Cool learned more about the situation. According to Rich Johnson DiDio was fired at the Burbank offices of Warner Bros at 10.30am. He left the building immediately after being told. The suits at Warners felt that DC was a poor work environment since a decent amount of editors left the company. DDD had a rep for being a micro-manager, which created issues with Geoff Johns when he was the Chief Creative Officer. And the upcoming Generation Five plans with would have phased out the current versions of Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman with younger versions didn’t sit will with some inside DC. And for some DC seemed to be running in place with projects like Metal Men and Inferior Five (both of which DDD wrote) getting 12-issue orders or the New Age of Heroes. So at least 8 editors left the building because they saw the ship was taking on water. Jim Lee is no the sole Publisher and CCO at DC and Warners management have no issues with Lee going solo for a while. As of this writing there is a story out there that Scott Snyder made his negative feelings about Generation Five known to a lot at DC. DDD wanted Death Metal to be a part of G5 and Snyder used his creative control to block the move. So Death Metal was removed from the Generation Zero: Gods Among Us story for Free Comic Book Day. And on FCBD that may not even be the story anymore even though the orders have to be put in. But one way or the other G5 is still happening but in what form we have no idea.
