Thrones Producers Not Re-Launching the Next Star Wars
Trilogy Due to Netflix |
Game of Thrones’ David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have
walked away from their deal with Lucasfilm to launch a Star Wars feature film
trilogy in 2022. The duo claim that their new major deal with Netflix would
interfere in the new trilogy which would be in theaters in 2022. But there is
much more to the story than that. One of the main reasons the pair walked away
was fan reaction to the last season of Game of Thrones. According to Heat Vision
their exit has been brewing since August when Lucasfilm chief Kathleen Kennedy
expressed anger with the duo signing a Netflix deal. She didn’t think they could
work on Star Wars and doing projects at Netflix since all the two have done is
run Thrones. Benioff and Weiss were working on a treatment for the films with
the plan of writing at least one of the films even though they had signed on to
write all three. Their plan was to explore a period in which the Jedi came to
exist. The two were also feeling the heat of what has been called “toxic fandom”
after GOT ended and didn’t want to deal with that again. The fact that creators
brought into the Star Wars fold had to fit into company line as far as they were
concerned placed them in a box that they didn’t want to be in.
