HOW THEY JOINED THE DAWN

All of the initial wave of Dawn of X titles have arrived but the question is how did the creators get offered the titles? Ed Brisson was offered New Mutants; Tini Howard was given Excalibur and Benjamin Percy was given X-Force and wave 2’s Wolverine. Percy says he was offered X-Force last October and Jonathan Hickman met him and Howard at a summit in January. Brisson was already working on X-Men titles but was given a chance to stay on with the new dynamic created by House of X and Powers of X. Howard had just started working for Marvel when she got an e-mail from Hickman labeled X-Men Ideas. She liked what she saw and had an idea of what she wanted to do so instead of writing a pitch she gave him an essay laying out where she wanted the book to go. Hickman liked it and she was given the title. Her take will explore the legacy of the Braddock family and expand the Captain Britain mythos, themes and the long history of Excalibur. Brisson’s New Mutants will exist as a welcoming party to modern mutant society. The title will introduce some new characters but also bring back mutants that haven’t been seen for quite a while. Brisson will also re-imagine the power sets of mutants we know and have gotten used to. Percy has been given the most brutal titles with X-Force remaining as the mutant covert team. His team will have an intelligence unit and a field unit that will deal with threats. Percy says the team is actually its own branch of a government with Xavier having plausible deniability for some of the missions they take on. The rest of the Quiet Council knows about them and will support them all the way. Percy will keep the roster fluid and have mission happen that use one mutant or the whole team. As for his work on Wolverine that’s a story for another time.
