Brain Injury May be Culprit in Recent Accused Behavior

Former UFC welterweight champion and UFC Hall of Fame member Matt Hughes has denied he ever physically abused his estranged wife. On his Instagram page he admitted that while his relationship with his wife, Audra Hughes, isn’t perfect, “NEVER, NEVER, NEVER would I, or have I, physically hurt those who I care about most.” She had filed a restraining order and a petition for divorce claiming he hit her in front of two of their children and her step-father after she accused him of sending texts to other women. She was granted the restraining order in December. Audra Hughes claims her husband’s abuse traces back to the fall of 2017, months after he was involved in a truck accident with a train that left him with a brain injury. She claims he choked her while she was in the shower when she refused to give him the keys to his truck or the code to his gun safe. Mark Hughes, Matt Hughes’ twin brother, had also filed a restraining order this past October when Hughes supposedly roughed up Mark’s 15-year-old son in September 2018 for driving the tractor. Mark Hughes claims he found the tractor covered in gasoline and suspected his brother was going to destroy the vehicle. Hughes is fully aware that his recovery from the brain injury has been hard on all concerned.
