Michael
Chiesa is seeking damages against former two-division UFC champion Conor
McGregor after he led an assault on a bus in Brooklyn earlier this year that
left several people injured. He filed the suit in New York and claims he
suffered “severe emotional distress, mental trauma and/or bodily harm” as a
result of “assault, battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress.”
He is also going after the Barclays Center in Brooklyn for negligence in its
failure to “to engage in proper security measures to protect the plaintiff and
other patrons.” The bus incident happened before UFC 223 in April after McGregor
forced his way into the Barclays Center with several of his friends and
teammates in an attempt to go after Khabib Nurmagomedov. Their issue had to do
with Nurmagomedov getting into an issue earlier in the week with UFC
featherweight Artem Lobov, McGregor’s teammate. McGregor threw a moving dolly at
a bus filled with fighters being taken back to their hotel. Shattered glass from
a window cut Chiesa and fellow UFC fighter Ray Borg. Both were then pulled from
UFC 223 due to the injuries. The suit looks for lost wages, since Chiesa would
have fought for the UFC lightweight title a few days later if he hadn’t been
injured. Since Max Holloway was pulled from the fight Chiesa could have gotten a
shot at the title. McGregor had already pled guilty to one count of misdemeanor
disorderly conduct after the incident but now he may lose a lot more money. |
