The 16-part No Surrender storyline seen in Avengers is
finally over. The arc concluded with the death of Quicksilver and Grandmaster’s
daughter Voyager become the hero she was pretending to be to stop her father’s
plans for Earth. Quicksilver will be seen again in Saladin Ahmed and Eric
Nguyen’s Quicksilver limited series which will show whether he is truly dead.
The final issues also brought back Steve Rogers for the final battle since the
intention of the writers was to shine a spotlight on other team members before
bringing him back in. And with the Earth now back into its natural orbit Jason
Aaron and Ed McGuinness have relaunched the Avengers with the team of Captain
America, Tony Stark, Thor, the Black Panther, Carol Danvers, Jennifer
Walters/She-Hulk, Ghost Rider (Robbie Reyes) and Doctor Strange. In the first
arc the team will face off against the Dark Celestials, who the 1,000,000 B.C.
Avengers took on in Marvel Legacy. A lot of the things Aaron did in Thor will
play into the Avengers and allow him to play with a lot of the toys he hasn’t
been able to play with yet. In his mind every arc will feel like an event and
the first thing he does in his first issue is get Tony Stark, Steve Rogers and
Thor back together to determine what doing so means. He added Black Panther and
Captain Marvel to the line up and says the two have major roles to play in the
book. Aaron decided that he wanted a Hulk on the team but wasn’t interested to
use Bruce Banner again so he decided to use Jennifer Walters instead. She-Hulk
will morph a lot in the first arc and add to her power set and levels. As for
Ghost Rider fans will see him learn more about what he can do and see how
important he can be to the Marvel Universe. He will be the gateway for fans to
look at this new team. Doctor Strange will just be around for the first arc but
will return depending on the story. At times we will see other members join the
team and in other times the team will just use the members they have. The
membership will not go past eight heroes and the team will have a support staff
consisting of Jarvis and others. The team will get a new headquarters to hang
out in. And between arcs fans will see single issues featuring the prehistoric
Avengers. The first one will be drawn by Sara Pichelli and involves the origin
of the prehistoric Ghost Rider. |
