In Go West #1 we're thrown into the action as the first three pages are not filled with unnecessary backstory/set up. It gives
us hints of what is going on, then jumps right into action. It tells us "Utah,
June 14th, 2136. 40 years after the war.", and that's really all we need to
know. Garrett Gunn's words are compelling, and instantly grab us from the
get-go. The eerie color scheme matches the emotion that you can feel from the
pencils. Although there were a few small clichés thrown in, I can look past that
based on the execution, which is mostly done well in this book.
The downside is that I feel all the setup in this issue would be better suited
for a series that would be longer than three issues. This feels like the next
two will have to be overflowing with content, but nonetheless, I'll have to wait
until I actually have the books in my hand before judging it.
I'm overall excited to see where this heads. Alterna Comics is a great company to buy books from. The creators are
nice people, and you can't beat a whole line of comic books where the cover
price is all $1.00-$1.50. It also makes me wonder why the other companies don't
stick to newsprint for their books. More people would buy if they had this low
of a cover price.
