MATCH 1: |
Davey Richards vs. Colt Cabana |
This was the opening match of the night. These two guys are probably the two
most well rounded technical guys in the company. The crowd was hot for this
match at the beginning. The guys for the few minutes traded simple wrestling
holds. Richards gained the early advantage by attacking and focusing on Cabana’s
shoulder. Richards knocked Cabana onto the floor and followed up with a huge
suicide dive. Cabana regained control of the match. Richards was on the top
turnbuckle. Cabana blocked Richards and Richards was on Cabana’s shoulder.
Cabana dropped Richards stomach first across the turnbuckle and followed up with
a moonsault for a nearfall. Richards regained the advantage by attacking
Cabana’s shoulder. Richards kept attacking the arm through several submission
maneuvers. Richards hit a falcon arrow and locked right into a arm breaker for
the victory. |
Match Rating: 4 ½ stars out of 5. These competitors went out and kicked off the
show. These guys set the energy for the night. Both guys have a future as the
world champion for this company. |
|
MATCH 2: |
Bennet vs. Steve Corino vs Kyle O’Reilly vs Grizzly Redwood |
This match is their version of a fatal four way match. This match featured 2 of
the new guys they have brought in the last year. The beginning minutes of the
match each guy had their time to show off the moves. They had their dive moments
on the ring floor. Kyle O’Reilly had a cool suplex series during the match.
O’Reilly took and butter flied Grizzly’s arms and suplexed him three times. They
also built seeds of a potential feud with Corino and Bennet. Bennet picked up
the victory by pinning Corino with a seated Rock Bottom. |
Match Rating: 3 stars out of 5. A good solid match with 3 young guys and an
excellent veteran. I like how they’re using Corino right now. They’re using him
to help get the young guys over with the crowd. |
|
MATCH 3: |
El Generico vs Michael Elgin w/Truth Martini |
The match started with Elgin launching with a quick clothesline onto El Generico.
Elgin kept Generico off balance in the beginning with all of his offense.
Generico regained control by sending Elgin onto the floor and hitting a huge
splash from the ring. Generico set Elgin up for his running ddt through the
turnbuckle. Elgin blocked it and turned it into a running power slam into the
guardrail. At one point Elgin’s manager got involved in the match. Elgin gave
Generico a power bomb with his manager on his shoulders. El Generico picked the
victory with a roll up. |
Match Rating: 3 ½ stars out of 5. These guys delivered a great showcasing their
best roles in the business. Elgin seems to be a great addition to the roster.
The crowd really ate up this match. |
|
MATCH 4: |
Rodereick Strong vs. Homicide for the ROH World Title |
This match had a stipulation of being a no holds barred. Strong attacked
Generico after his match and Homicide came out. Homicide attacked Strong and the
match was on. The match was a brawl from the beginning. It went from the ring
area down the aisle and back again. One point during the match a steel chair was
wedged between all 4 turnbuckles by Strong. Homicide was able to gain control
and throw Strong into the turnbuckles. Homicide was able to pick up a near fall
following the moves. Homicide stationed a table in the corner. Homicide was able
to connect with a tornado ddt through the table. Strong was able to pick up the
victory after a big boot and backbreaker. |
Match Rating: 4 stars out of 5. This match showcased Homicide’s biggest strength
in being a street fighter. Strong delivered a great match and really sold the
corner spots. Strong came off as a dominant champion for the company. |
|
MATCH 5: |
Sara Del Ray vs MsChif |
The match was dominated by Del Ray the whole time. Del Ray got the victory with
a wrist clutch suplex. |
Match Rating: 1 ½ stars out of 5. These two ladies are the premiere independent
women wrestlers right now. This match had a WWE feel to this match. They could
have gone a solid ten minutes but only given 5. |
|
MATCH 6: |
Kings Of Wrestling vs. All Night Express for ROH Tag Team Titles |
Kenny King and Chris Hero started off the match for their perspective teams. All
night express gained the early advantage with some early double team moves. King
connected with a enziguri type kick and Titus followed up with a drop kick. This
lead to an early near pin fall by the all night express. Claudio Castagnolli
gained the advantage back by hitting Titus with a big time European Uppercut on
the ring apron. Kings of Wrestling spent the next several minutes focusing on
Rhett Titus. Titus was able to make the tag and King came in and cleaned house.
King showed off his athleticism by leaping from the mat onto the top turnbuckle
and connecting with a kick on Claudio. Titus followed up and hit a monster x
factor from the turnbuckle for a very close near fall. Hero hit King with his
loaded elbow pad and allowed Claudio to fall on top for the pin fall. |
Match Rating: 4 ½ stars out of 5. By the end of this match All Night Express
earned a lot of respect from the fans. This is their breakthrough match and
earned a spot as one of the top teams in the company. Kings of Wrestling keep
showing why they’re one of the best teams in the business today. |
|
MATCH 7: |
Eddie Edwards vs Christopher Daniels For the ROH TV Title |
This match was a 2 out of 3 falls match with a 30 minute time limit. These two
men are the only TV champion in the company’s history. The match started off
slowly as each competitor felt each other out for the first few minutes. The
match picked up with each guy landing several hard shots. Edwards and Daniels
kept trading submission maneuvers. Daniels was able to pick up the first fall
after countering a submission move into a rollup. Edwards landed a nice
huaracanrana while Daniels was on the top rope. Edwards locked Daniels into a
tree of woe and landed a missile dropkick. Edwards then went onto the floor and
ran full speed and hit another dropkick. Edwards got the second pin fall when he
locked in his achilles lock and Daniels tapped. Neither competitor could
maintain an advantage for the final few minutes of the match. Both guys went
over the top rope right as time expired. The match was officially ruled as a
draw. |
Match Rating: The crowd was wanting more time added to the match to determine a
winner. Daniels was visibly seen having a hard time standing. They left the
match as a draw. These 2 guys went out and gave everything they had. |
|
MATCH 8: |
Charlie Haas & Shelton Benjamin vs. The Briscoes Brothers |
This match was their first time ever meeting between these two teams. Announced
during intermission that the winner of this match will receive a title shot
during Wrestlemania weekend. Benjamin and Jay Briscoe started off the match for
their respective teams. They traded several simple moves to feel everything out.
Within several minutes each team started to leave everything in the ring. At one
point all four competitors were in the ring. Benjamin got the advantage after
nailing Jay with a kick to the head. Haas and Benjamin kept the advantage going
for a few minutes. Briscoe's focused their attack for several minutes on Charlie
Haas. They suplexed him back first on the ringside barriers. Haas eventually
made the tag and Benjamin came in and cleaned house. Benjamin landed the stinger
splash in the corner for a near fall. Benjamin landed with his dragon screw leg
lariat for another near fall. The bout wound up in the first few rows of seats.
Benjamin picked up the victory after connecting with a blockbuster. After the
match all four competitors shook hands and praised each other. |
Match Rating: 5 stars out of 5. These two teams just went out and left
everything in the ring. These guys delivered a match that a had a feel of
multiple bouts between these two teams. |
|
SHOW RATING: |
4 ½ stars out of 5. The overall rating would have been a 5 if they didn’t kibosh
the women’s match like they did. Ring Of Honor truly are fearless when they let
the main event be a tag team match. You can catch this event on I Go Fight live
for the next couple of weeks. No a bad way to spend 15 dollars on a wrestling
show. |
