RING OF HONOR HOUSE SHOW-112208

EVENT REVIEW BY:
Andrew Schumann

EVENT DATE:
Saturday, November 22nd, 2008

LOCATION:
Chicago Ridge Frontier Fieldhouse, Chicago Ridge, Illinois
"There was no noticeable drop of product by the wrestlers and the company is getting more streamlined with their production."
Ring of Honor was in town to tape a pay per view on the weekend before Thanksgiving. The big news is that they’ve finalized their contract with Direct TV to air their pay per views. They can now distribute their own pay per views as they see fit
MATCH 1:
The Briscoe Brothers vs. Kevin Steen& El Generico for the ROH Tag Team Titles
The Briscoes came out and demanded that Steen and Generico come out and give them a match for the titles. Steen and Generico quickly accepted and the match was on. The Briscoes took the early advantage by double teaming Generico for several minutes. Generico was able to make the hot tag to Steen. Steen was able to clear the ring of Jay Briscoe and Generico flew over the top rope and occupied him. Steen then hit Mark with his pump handle neck breaker and followed with a package pile driver to pick up the win. After the match all 4 men brawled with each other. The referees had to pull them apart multiple times.

Star Rating: 2 ½ out of 4 stars. This match was relatively short about 10 minutes. The tag team titles are still being chased hard by the Briscoes. I do believe that the match was kept short because Mark was being hampered by a leg injury.
MATCH 2:
Sarah Del Ray versus MsChif for the Shimmer Title
The match started on the outside of the ring with Del Ray attacking MsChif. MsChif was able to regain control by sending Del Ray into the ringside barrier. The match quickly got back into the ring with Del Ray gaining control. Del Ray focused on MsChif’s back for most of the match. Del Ray used several different submission maneuvers wearing down the back. MsChif was able to turn the tide by landing several big moves. MsChif was able to put on a head scissors and abdominal stretch onto Del Ray. Del Ray tried to escape the move MsChif was able to keep it on and locked on the other side. MsChif was able to retain the belt after hitting Del Ray with the desecrator.

Star Rating: 3 out of 4 stars. The match proved why these are the 2 of the best women wrestlers on the Independent scene.
MATCH 3:
Rhett Titus versus Delirious
This match has been a part of a feud between these two over the affection of Daizee Haze. Delirious gained the early control of the match by attacking Titus on the outside. Titus regained control with several shots. Delirious picked up the victory after nailing Titus with Shadows over hell after the panic attack. After the match Delirious continued to attack Titus by nailing him with the top of the class trophy.

Star rating: 2 ½ out of 4 stars. Titus being a ROH academy student has a bright future. Right now he has a gimmick that is working and an excellent first feud with Delirious.
MATCH 4:
Alex Payne vs. Silas Young vs. Sami Callahan vs. Claudio Castagnolli
This match is one of their corner stone match being a 4 corner survival. In which the first pinfall wins the match. Sami Callahan is making his Chicago debut for Ring of Honor. It was basically 3 on 1. Claudio was in complete control of the match just dominating the other wrestlers. Claudio picked up the victory with the Ricolla Bomb on Alex Payne. After the match Claudio was trying to inflict more damage on Payne. Danielson came running down to Payne’s assistance and run off Castagnolli.

Match rating: 2 stars out of 4. This match is helping to establish Claudio as being their big time heel in the company. The ending is setting up Claudio’s next program with Danielson. Payne is big time over with the Chicago crowd. I hope that Callahan gets another chance with the company as he did so use what he could do.
MATCH 5:
Sweet N Sour, Inc. vs. Brent Albright, Roderick Strong and Ace Steel
The Sweet N Sour team was consisted of Chris Hero, Go Shiozaki and Davey Richards. Ace Steel was Strong’s and Albright’s mystery partner after SNS Inc knocked out their original partner. This match was basically controlled chaos the whole time. The referee had a hard time keeping the teams within the ring in the early part of the match. Several times all six competitors were in the ring. Strong and Richards exchanged several hard and stiff shorts that ringed throughout the field house. SNS Inc. picked up the victory after Hero hit Strong with a chair with the referee’s back was turned.

Star Rating: 3 ½ out of 4 stars. Going into the winter months this feud is going to be the hottest one for ROH. This feud features several of their higher upper mid carders. There is several different ways they can book this feud from this point on.
MATCH 6:
Austin Aries versus Jimmy Jacobs in an "I Quit" Match
This feud was the hottest one of the summer over the disappearance of Jacob’s manager/girlfriend Lacey. These two men have absolutely beaten each other senseless the last two months. There was only one way to settle this feud was with an I Quit match. Jacobs gained the early advantage after busting open Aries with a chain. Jacobs kept the pressure on Aries for several minutes. Jacobs eventually wrapped Aries on a chair with the chain. This point of the match Lacey made her return to ROH. Aries used this stoppage to regain control of the match. Aries eventually busted open Jacobs and both were a bloody mess. Aries and Jacobs were jostling on the top turnbuckle and both fell through a table on the outside. Aries was the first one up and put Jacobs in the corner and nailed couple of running dropkicks. Aries then locked in his reverse chin lock submission move after several knees to the head. Lacey had stolen Black’s white towel one point during the match. Black tossed in a spike to Jacobs for him to use. Aries avoided the spike and took and used it on Jacobs. Aries locked up Jacobs’ arms and repeatedly spiked him in which Jacobs gave up.

Star Rating: 4 stars out of 4 stars. Every time Jacobs has a blow off match to cap a feud he just simply delivers. Both of these guys gave it their all in the ring. The crowd was heavily involved in the match since the beginning.
MATCH 7:
Bryan Danielson vs. Nigel McGuinness for ROH World Championship
This match had the all the early markings of being an instant classic right from the start of the match. Danielson in the early part of the match focused on the arms of McGuinness trying to take out the main part of his offense. They traded control of the match back and forth several times. Nigel got his first break of the match when he started to attack Danielson injured knee with several different maneuvers. Nigel locked in the figure four leg lock onto Danielson’s injured knee. Danielson knocked Nigel out to the outside and followed up with a huge flipping senton splash over the top ropes. They fought up the aisle and Nigel made back to the ring. Claudio came out and attacked Danielson on the entrance ramp. Payne came out and helped Danielson make it back to the ring before the 20 count. Every time they went for one of their signature moves they know how to counter it. Danielson was able to connect with several elbows to the head. Danielson was able to lock on a cross armbar and then turned it into a triangle choke hold. Danielson used his cattle mutilation a couple of times and Nigel refused to submit. Nigel finally got the victory after connecting with a rebound lariat.

Star Rating: 4 out of 4 stars. The last time two competitors just kept bringing the best out of each other was Bret Hart and Curt Henning. Danielson and McGuiness no matter what happens just bring the best out of each other repeatedly. They find ways to improve each time facing each other. These two guys are putting Ring of Honor on the map right now.
MATCH 8:
Samoa Joe vs. Tyler Black
This is one time deal with the return of Samoa Joe to Ring of Honor. A ring of honor icon took on the next big guy for ring of honor in Tyler Black. Joe got the early advantage of the match by using his size advantage. Tyler got the advantage by avoiding Samoa Joe‘s ole kick. Tyler Black kept the pressure up. Joe was able to turn the tide by my holding onto the top rope and landing a clothesline. Joe was able to land the air raid crash on Black for a near fall. Tyler was able to place Joe up on the top turnbuckle. Joe was trying to land a super muscle buster but Tyler was able to block. After a couple of minutes Joe was able to hit the muscle buster and lock in the kokona klutch for the victory. After the match Joe got on the microphone thanking the fans for everything we have given to the company. Joe said that Ring of Honor has the best athletes wrestling and giving it their all. Joe said that he bleeds black and maroon of Ring of Honor.

Match Rating: 3 ½ out of 4 stars. They both made each other look golden in the ring. Joe I think gave Tyler the push that could get him into the next level with the company.
OVERALL...
A month before this show the long time booker for Ring Of Honor left the company. There was no noticeable drop of product by the wrestlers. The main thing is that company is getting more streamlined with their product. I would recommend that you buy this pay per view. With the change being made in the booking side this could push them even further as the top independent federation.
