Illinois Governor. J.B. Pritzker announced on April 23 he was extending the
"stay at home" order until May 30 to contain the spread of COVID-19. However he
also eased some if the restrictions including allowing non-essential retail
stores to take online or phone orders and fulfill them with curbside pickup or
delivery. With this change Alternate Reality has decided to extend our current
restricted hours. Beginning on Tuesday May 5th we will re-open on the
following still limited/but expanded basis...

In an effort to "get back to normal" we will now be open FIVE days a week but
still by appointment only. Why still appointments? Because with the number of
infections and deaths still on the rise, we still want to limit your in-store
interactions with others now more than ever. To manage exposure and maintain social distancing
we are still taking 12 appointments a day, one every half hour between Noon and 6:00pm
but now expanded to the FIVE days listed. We think sixty, 30 minute appointments during the
week is ample time and opportunity for people to shop during a "Shelter in Place" order. With
just two of us in the store at a time "social distancing" should take care of
itself, it's not as if there will be a chance of you bumping into anyone else
during your stay.
To make an appointment all you have to do is call the store anytime and we'll find a
slot that works for you. Please do not come to the store without an appointment,
if we are taking care of an appointment customer we will not be able to let you
in while others are present, for the safety of all concerned.
Curbside Service?
Don't want to come in but want to shop? Well we won't take it personally and we
will continue to offer curbside service at the hours and times listed
above. No appointment is necessary since you won't be entering the store
(curbside), but you will need to call ahead be to sure we have your items
and to place the order. You can either pay ahead or pay when you pull up however
we can only hold unpaid orders until the end of the day.
Mail Order?
The old stand by. Want to make an order but can't get to the store? We can ship
your order out to you via USPS Priority Mail. Exact shipping charged, inquire
about derails.
Be a Super-Hero, Wear a
Mask
At the same April 23rd announcement the Governor also initiated a statewide "masks in
public" requirement.
Starting May 1st Illinoisans over 2 years old were ordered to: "wear masks when
in public and unable to maintain a 6-foot social distance". We encourage you to
wear a mask in public, to ensure your safety and the safety of others. However our current "one person/one appointment at a time" makes this optional
within the confines of the store.
New Comic Wednesday
The 032520 shipping is still the last New Comic Wednesday any store has had. At this time Diamond Comics Distribution is planning
on restarting shipping on WEDNESDAY MAY 20TH! How we will handle New Comic
Wednesday in a world of social distancing we haven't quite figured out yet.
Details will be forthcoming but mark your calendars. In the meantime we
still have a store full of stock so if you're itching for a comic experience
dial us up and we'll see what we can do. Until we return to normal, remember social distancing, wash your hands,
mask up and road
trip when necessary.
