DC Entertainment Seems to Have Righted Itself With a
Few Successes |
A recent article in Variety took a hard
look into the future of Warners’ films based on DC Comics heroes. Both Aquaman
and Joker made over $1 billion each and Shazam was well received and made money.
The first basic move is to make comic book movies for adults with the current
R-rated Birds of Prey and James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. Neither film is going
to be dark or grim. Matt Reeves’ The Batman is next up and Warners made it clear the film does
not take place with the walls of Arkham Asylum. As for Superman even though
Henry Cavill is eager to return nothing is set in stone. There have been rumors
that Warners was talking to director J.J. Abrams, which he has denied and that
Michael B. Jordan was in consideration for the title role so we aren’t going to
see a new Superman film 2023 at the earliest. Geoff Johns’ script for Green
Lantern Corps has supposedly been turned in or is about to but the film has no
director since Rupert Wyatt passed on the film last summer. Ezra Miller is still
set as The Flash with a script by Bumblebee’s Christina Hodson who is going to
write the script for Batgirl shortly after. As for the Cyborg film there is no
word on that film at all and it seems the project is dead. The former New Line
executive/now DC Films president Walter Hamada has laid down the law with the
edict of coming up with a great story and then staying within your budget. And
for all you fans out there clamoring for it there are no plans for a Snyder cut
of Justice League.
