In
an annual tradition worthy of Scrooge, the WWE released a bunch of talent right before the holidays. The
Ascension, Viktor (Ryan Parmeter) and Konnor (Eric Thompson), were released. The
duo hadn’t been on TV for a while and couldn’t even get on WWE Main Event. The
two were a major part of the early days of NXT's tag team division. They were
called up to the main roster after three years in FCW/NXT and were given a huge
initial push due to them looking like Demolition and the Road Warriors. That
push ended after a month and they spend five years on the main roster but never
came close to getting the tag titles. Viktor had been in the WWE system since
2005 while Konnor was a Stampede Wrestling/Hart Dungeon alumnus who had been in
the WWE system since 2011 and actually beat Seth Rollins for the FCW heavyweight
title back in 2012. Luke Harper (Jonathan Huber) and Sin Cara (Jorge Arias) were
cut the same day. Both had asked for their releases and finally got them. Harper
returned to WWE television in September and was involved in a program with Erick
Rowan against Roman Reigns and Daniel Bryan but hadn’t been seen on TV since.
His last match was in the battle royal on the Crown Jewel pre-show on October
31. Harper applied to trademark his former name Brodie Lee last month. He was
regarded as a ring general in WWE but Vince soured on him because he couldn’t do
a Southern accent and his character was a southerner. He and Rowan were booked
together and that kind of hurt Harper since when Rowan was injured he
disappeared from TV. Harper’s solo run wasn’t well received either. Sin Cara had
been in the WWE system for a while and got the Sin Cara character after Mistico
left the company. There were backstage issues with Arias as well since he got
into few fights, one with Simon Gotch, which led to Gotch getting cut
eventually. All of them have 90 day no compete clauses but for some reason Sin
Cara made an appearance at an AAA event in full mask using the name in Mexico.
WWE owns the name and the mask so expect a legal issue between AAA and the WWE.
