Former
Marvel Comics Editor-in-Chief, Jim Shooter, founder of Valiant Comics, Defiant
Comics and Broadway Comics, will make his Image Comics debut with an ongoing
series called Slow City Blues. The book was created by Samuel Haine, who started
working on the book six years ago. He worked in a restaurant in order to raise
money to pay someone to draw some sample pages for the concept. From there he
met veteran comic book inker, John Livesay, who will be the series editor and
inker for the comic. Livesay brought in Shawn Moll to draw the book, JD Smith to
color the book and Thomas Mauer to letter the series. Livesay inked Jim
Shooter's most recent Legion of Super-Heroes run for DC and so he introduced
Shooter with Haine which led to Shooter becoming the series story editor. The
comic will tell the story of detective John Loris, who is trapped inside his own
imagination after the accidental shooting of a little girl while in the line of
duty. Loris tried to take his own life but ended up stuck in the imaginary world
of Slow City. Loris will work there as a cop in a world in which everyone knows
he is the creator of this world. He will be teamed up with a six foot six,
wisecracking skunk and the two will have to stop a gang war before Slow City is
destroyed. Shooter took the job with the plan of applying his vast knowledge to
keep Haine on track and because he liked what story the series was going to
tell.
