George Miller still has plans for the Mad Max franchise. He has
ideas for two more films, in addition to a Furiosa spin-off. He told IndieWire,
"There are two stories, both involving Mad Max, and also a Furiosa story. We're
still solving, we’ve got to play out the Warners thing, and it seems to be
pretty clear that it’s going to happen. "The Warner thing he is referring to is
the lawsuit he filed against Warner Bros. in 2017. Miller claimed the studio
owed his production company, Kennedy Miller Mitchell, which he co-runs, $7
million. Under the terms of the contract, the $7 million was only owed if the
film didn't go over budget which it did not. Warners filed a counter suit
claiming Kennedy Miller Mitchell broke the rules of his contract. According to
the studio, Fury Road was supposed to be a PG-13, 100-minute movie but the film
that reached theaters was R-rated and was 120 minutes. Even with the suit Warner
Bros. seemed interested in continuing to work with Miller as recently as March
but Kevin Tsuijihara was running the studio before he was pushed out. He was
replaced by Ann Sarnoff, who has said nothing about the proposed films but
Miller making comments suggest she is willing to make the films. Tom Hardy has
been more than willing to return to the franchise. Miller is still working on
getting 3000 Years of Longing started with Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton attached
which will begin shooting early next year.
