 Batman
was supposed to have married Catwoman in Batman #50 but it didn’t happen. Fans
didn’t learn this by reading the issue but because The New York Times spoiled
the end of the issue. Tom King wasn’t happy the ending was spoiled but says that
the event was only the turning point in his planned 100-issue story. He wants
his run to be one exploration of Batman with one huge villain and one huge
theme. The villain is Bane and the huge theme is Batman, Catwoman and their
love. He will do a story that has Batman and Catwoman in the same room together
and that tale will be told with the help of Catwoman’s Joelle Jones which was
the plan all along. King has recently talked about a leap that fans made after
reading Batman #53, which fans took as a reveal that Batman was an atheist. He
posted on Twitter: “Lot of people saying Batman 53, which I wrote, shows Batman
is an atheist. That’s not how I read that comic. But I don’t think my reading of
it is the most important one. Anyway, I hope you read the whole thing for
yourself and decide for yourself.” |
