Hot Director Signs Deal With Fox Searchlight

Since The Shape of Water did so well Guillermo del Toro has signed an overall deal with Fox Searchlight to write, produce and direct live-action feature projects at the division. Searchlight will create a new label that will be the home for projects in the horror, sci-fi and fantasy genres, developed by del Toro. The first project under the deal will be Hostiles’ Scott Cooper’s supernatural thriller Antlers based on the short story The Quiet Boy. The story follows an elementary school teacher who takes in a troubled student that harbors a mysterious family secret with deadly consequences. Del Toro will write, produce and direct a remake of the 1947 Fox film Nightmare Alley. He will co-write the script with Kim Morgan, but the film isn’t his next project. The film will tell the story of a man who hooks up with a female psychiatrist who fleeces people with their mentalist act, who then turns the table on him. That film will happen sometime down the road since del Toro’s next film will be the Fantastic Voyage remake.
