Valiant
Entertainment is now fully owned by DMG Entertainment. DMG, which co-produced
Looper and Iron Man 3, already owned a 57 percent stake in Valiant. The decision
to take over the entire company was made to make the creation of film properties
based on the comics easier. According to DMG CEO Dan Mintz the move was made by
doing that and not the comics. Valiant was formed in 1989 with former Marvel
Comics Editor-in-Chief Jim Shooter then sold in 1994 to game developer and
publisher Acclaim Entertainment. The company went out of business after filing
bankruptcy in 2004 and in 2005 a group led by Dinesh Shamdasani and Jason
Kothari picked up the rights to the Valiant catalog which led to the company
being renamed Valiant Entertainment. The comics owned by them hit the racks
again in 2012. Shamdasani, Gavin Cuneo and Peter Cuneo will resign from as the
CEO/CCO, COO and chairman but Shamdasani and Gavin Cuneo will remain involved
with the company in a consulting role. It was made clear that Valiant will
continue publishing monthly comics. |
