Think Kamandi But Without the Kamandi, and the Monkeys are Blue

Angelic, the new all-ages series from Si Spurrier, Caspar Wijngaard, Jim Campbell and designer Emma Price is set in a world in which all humanity is gone. All that has survived are evolved animals who have developed their own societies with religious-based barriers and an enforced class system. The lead character of the series is Qora, a teenage winged monkey whose place in her society has been defined by her elders. She isn’t happy with that and begins questioning her faith which will lead her into an adventure. Their belief system is that her gods ascended into the heavens and left the monkeys as the Earth’s protectors. They are last defense of goodness over evil; evil in the form of cybernetic rocket-powered dolphins who attack the city when they want to. Females are second class citizens and no one is allowed to ask questions or be different. There is also a ritual that ends up with a male and a female monkey entering a chamber which has the female emerge pregnant and without her wings. That’s something Qora is deathly afraid of and unwilling to go through so she sets off on her adventure with a male companion who is her polar opposite. Spurrier will do the series in a series of arcs each of which will add more layers to the story.
