The Trials and Tribulations of Getting Dune Back on the Screen

Legendary Entertainment now owns the film and TV rights to Frank Herbert’s Dune novel series from the late author’s estate. The deal sets up a new film and another TV adaptation of the series. David Lynch directed a film version in 1984 and in 2000 there was a Syfy Channel TV mini-series. Over the last few years Taken’s Pierre Morel and Patriots Day’s Peter Berg have tried and failed to get a new movie version out there. A film version directed by Arrival’s Denis Villeneuve will happen but not anytime soon. Villeneuve openly campaigned for the job but isn’t in a hurry to make it since he hasn’t taken a break in years.
