The WWE has been sued by over 50 wrestlers who claim the WWE hid long-term
effects of neurological injuries from years of in-ring action. The suit was
filed in federal court in New Haven, Connecticut. The former wrestlers claim
that WWE “placed corporate gain over its wrestlers’ health, safety and financial
security, choosing to leave the plaintiffs severely injured and with no recourse
to treat their damaged minds and bodies.” They also claim that WWE deliberately
ignored and hid from them “medically important and possibly lifesaving
information” about specific neurological conditions, such as Chronic Traumatic
Encephalopathy, that affect wrestlers and athletes who play contact sports prone
to head trauma. The WWE response was: “This is another ridiculous attempt by the
same attorney who has previously filed class action lawsuits against WWE, both
of which have been dismissed. A federal judge has already found that this lawyer
made patently false allegations about WWE, and this is more of the same. We’re
confident this lawsuit will suffer the same fate as his prior attempts and be
dismissed.” The wrestlers in the new suit include: Road Warrior Animal, Jimmy
Snuka, Paul Orndorff, Chavo Guerrrero Jr (currently taking chair shots to the
head in Lucha Underground), Chavo Guerrero Sr., Adam Bomb, Ahmed Johnson,
Kamala, Dave and Earl Hebner, King Kong Bundy, Ken Patera, Sabu (oh please),
Smash, Ax, The Bezerker, Johnny The Bull, Jim Brunzell, Sue Green, King Kong
Mosca, Jim Powers, Mike Enos (one of the Beverly Brothers, Butch Reed, Jazz,
Sylvain Grenier, Omar Atlas, Don Leo Jonathan, Shane Douglas (why there were no
chair shots in ECW, were they?), Muhammad Hassan, Henry Godwin, Princess
Victoria, Judy Martin, Mark Jindrak (currently working full time in Mexico), the
father of Axl Rotten (another guy who did matches using florescent bulbs and
thumb tacks), Marty Janetty, Jon Heindenreich, The Warlord, The Barbarian, The
Crippler, Bobbi Billard, Rex King, Tracy Smothers, Mantaur, Black Bart, Slick,
One Man Gang, JJ Funk, Lou Marconi, Rod Price, Donald Driggers, Rodney Mack,
Outlaw Ron Bass and Boris Zhukov. What you immediately notice after reading this
list is that most didn’t even work for WWE when chair shots to the head were
common. The other thing is that once they were released they never worked
anywhere again. An earlier lawsuit from the same lawyer has already been
dismissed. |
