The Nevada Athletic Commission on Monday has confirmed two substances that
interim UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones tested positive for prior to
UFC 200 and extended his temporary suspension. Both were estrogen blocking
agents. He could have been suspended for two years but Jones says that he
expects to be back in the Octagon soon. This was confirmed by UFC President Dana
White on The Jim Rome Show. He told Rome, “It’s coming back now that it looks
like he did not take the supplement that everybody thought he took. We’ll see
how this thing plays out. I don’t even know if this is public. I don’t even know
if I can talk about it. Normally, I’ll talk about anything, but when it comes to
medical stuff, you can’t do it. But it’s looking like Jon Jones did not take the
drug that everybody thought he took. It looks like it’s something else. I’ll let
this thing play out and if that’s true and that’s what USADA and the Nevada
State Athletic Commission says happened, it could look good for Jon Jones.”
White went on to say that Jones took something that he didn’t tell the USADA and
that led to him failing the test. Daniel Cormier expects Jones to fight Anthony
Johnson but doesn’t expect Jones to maintain his interim champion designation.
Jones is expected to go before the NSAC in October. |
